Quad City Hitmen Baseball Hall of Fame
2004 Inductee - Wes Freie, Wilton
High School

April 18, 2004, as read by Patrick Rangel,
President, Quad City Hitmen Baseball Association
-
Let's begin with a little name-dropping and see if you can
guess what relevance these names have:
University of Northern Iowa, Arizona
State, University of Missouri, Southwest Missouri State,
University of Kentucky, Creighton University, Notre Dame,
Boston College, Long Beach State, Vanderbilt University,
University of Arizona, University of Iowa, University of
Indiana, Clemson University, Tulane and Stanford.
These are just a handful of the Universities
among some 40 Division I schools and numerous other Junior/Small
colleges that are vying for the baseball services of our
Quad City Hitmen Alumni, Wes Freie.
Not only are the Universities impressed with the athletic
ability of this young man, but his adademic ability as well.
Needless to say, Wes is well ahead of the pace when it comes
to meeting the requirements of the NCAA to compete at the
Division I level. I think Notre Dame, Boston College and
Stanford are pretty good judges of the students they wish
to have represent their universities.
Entering into just his Junior season at Wilton High School,
Wes is making a name for himself all over the country. With
over 1000 names to choose from all over the United States,
Wes has been selected as a 2004 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season
All-American as selected by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
As a pitcher, Wes was 11-2 as a Sophomore with 113 strikeouts
and a 1.15 ERA. He hit .590 with 8 home runs, 20 doubles
and 50 RBI's. He helped his Wilton High School team to an
Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference title the past two seasons,
while garnering 2nd Team All-Conference at shortstop as
a Freshman and 1st Team All-Conference as a pitcher the
following year. Wes was also recognized with 1st Team Southeast
District honors at shortstop in 2003. He was awarded Defensive
Player of the Year in 2002, and Team Captain and Most Valuable
Player honors in 2003.
Wes holds all-time single season records at Wilton High
School for batting average at .590, hits at 106, RBI's at
96, doubles at 35, triples at 4, home runs at 13, and EIHC
Conference batting average at .613. As a pitcher, Wes holds
records for most wins at 16, strike outs at 163, ERA at
1.17, saves at 5 and complete games at 6.
Wes' amazing athletic ability and talent has made him one
of the most sought after players by professional scouts
and recruiters fromt he most successful universities in
America. And he has made the Quad City Hitmen Organization
very proud of what he has accomplished.
