JJ is the son of Kym & Jeff Vandygriff. He is a Junior at Rock Island High School where he plays varsity basketball and baseball for the Rocks. He recently was awarded the Morland Fink Team Pride Award for the 2006 basketball season. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is listed in "Who's Who in American High Schools". He is listed on the National Honor Roll and has been on the Principal's Honor Roll every semester at RIHS. He is in the top 5% of his class, belongs to the Spanish Club, Key Club and is a member of "Vic's Clique". He volunteers his time working with Black Hawk Area Special Education Center's basketball team.

JJ plans to continue his education at a four year university where he hopes to compete in collegiate athletics.
